IN SOME AREAS...

A BITTER COLD ARCTIC AIR MASS WAS SETTLING ACROSS THE REGION THIS
MORNING. TEMPERATURES RANGED FROM NEAR 0 AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS
FROM EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA THROUGH SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND
NORTHWEST NORTH CAROLINA TO AROUND 20 IN THE PIEDMONT. WIND CHILLS
RANGED FROM 15 BELOW ZERO AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE WESTERN
MOUNTAINS TO AROUND 10 ACROSS THE PIEDMONT AS NORTHWEST WINDS
CONTINUED TO BLOW AT 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO NEAR 30 MPH IN
SOME AREAS.

CONDITIONS WILL BECOME LESS FAVORABLE FOR SNOW SHOWERS THROUGH THE
DAY...TAPERING MOSTLY TO FLURRIES. SNOWFALL HAS BEEN HIGHLY
VARIABLE OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS...WITH AMOUNTS FROM LESS THAN
AN INCH EAST OF THE ALLEGHANY FRONT INTO LOCATIONS SUCH AS THE NEW
RIVER VALLEY...TO 4 TO 6 INCHES...LOCALLY MORE...AT THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS OF THE BLUE RIDGE AND ALLEGHANY MOUNTAINS. ROADS MAY BE
SNOW COVERED IN SOME AREAS AND BLOWING SNOW MAY ALSO IMPACT
ROADS...ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

IF YOU ARE PLANNING TRAVEL THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS...ESPECIALLY
AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS...BE ALERT FOR AREAS WITH SNOW COVERED
ROADS. REDUCE SPEED...LEAVE EXTRA DISTANCE BETWEEN YOU AND THE
VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU...AND ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO REACH YOUR
DESTINATION.
