27 Disastrous flooding. Comparable to the floods from Hurricanes Matthew and Floyd. All major roads on the south side of Kinston will flood. Numerous businesses and homes will have significant inundation. Most creeks in Lenoir County will back up and cause widespread flooding with homes and businesses inundated. In Grifton, the Contentnea Creek will back up and cause major flooding inundating properties up to at least Main Street. Tick Bite will have extensive flooding with many homes flooded.
25 Water will begin to flood the intersection of HWY 258 and HWY 70. Numerous homes and businesses flood along and south of HWY 70. All major highways on the south side of Kinston become impassible. The Contentnea Creek will back up and cause major flooding in Grifton with homes and businesses inundated up to Main St. Major flooding will also occur in Tick Bite where numerous homes will be flooded. East of Kinston, HWY 55 will become impassable at low spots around the bridge with some homes flooded.
23 Many homes and businesses southeast of Kinston will flood. Highway 11 and numerous secondary roads will become impassable. Water will flood the Rivermont area. In Grifton, the Contentnea Creek will back up and cause flooding of homes and businesses along Water St. and Highland Blvd. Water will inundate some homes in Tick Bite.
21 Some homes and businesses southeast of Kinston will begin to flood. Water will flood several secondary roads southeast of Kinston as well as Highway 11. Water will back up Contentnea Creek and begin flooding homes near the creek in Grifton. Water will surround homes in Tick Bite and cut off residents. Small streams across Lenoir, southern Pitt and northern Craven Counties will begin to flood secondary roads and may affect some homes.
18 Widespread lowland flooding is likely adjacent to the river. Water will begin to approach some secondary roads over the southeast sections of Kinston. Residents who live in flood prone areas near the river should begin to move property to higher ground.
17 Widespread lowland flooding adjacent to the river can be expected. Campgrounds and picnic areas at the Nature Center in Kinston begin to flood.
16 Low land flooding of the campground at the Nature Center can be expected.
14 Water will begin to overflow into lowlands adjacent to the river.
