Graphical representation of flood inundation for NWS flood categories are based on steady state hydraulic modeling of water surface elevations for incremented discharges. Map shows approximate inundation areas for given water surface elevations and should not be used for navigation or permitting or other legal purposes, but strictly as a planning reference tool.

Site-specific information:
(1) These maps depict the impacts of the Cedar River backwater on smaller local tributary streams. The maps do not make any assumptions on the flow conditions on the local tributaries. Mapping on smaller local tributary streams may not represent actual conditions during periods of high flows on the smaller local tributary streams.

(2) Flooding along Black Hawk Creek and the Cedar River, downstream of Black Hawk Creek, may be worse than depicted during periods of high flows on Black Hawk Creek.

(3) This map shows flooding that is representative of 2013 conditions. The accuracy of the mapping will be reduced if flood protection systems are developed or enhanced in post 2013 conditions.

(4) The AHPS flood inundation maps, when compared to the regulatory FEMA DFIRM mapping, will depict different flooding scenarios. The differences occur because AHPS and FEMA maps have been designed for different purposes and developed based on different assumptions.
