HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BILLINGS MT

...Ice jams on rivers and streams possible through the weekend...

Recent very cold temperatures have allowed some ice to form on
rivers and streams. Below normal temperatures are expected to
continue into the weekend, so waterways may continue to build ice
or freeze up. In some locations this could result in freeze up ice
jam formation and localized flooding. Freeze up type ice jams are
typically short lived but can result in rapid water rises. Warmer
temperatures are expected next week.

Those living near waterways should pay close attention to the
state of the ice, move livestock and equipment away from low
lying areas, and be prepared to seek higher ground should waters
rise.

If ice jam flooding does develop please report it to local law
enforcement, and have them pass it on to the National Weather
Service.
