Official NWS streamflow forecasts are produced by NWS hydrologic forecasters for river gauge locations using hydrologic models which are calibrated to that location. This process considers additional guidance and information, including local expertise and experience, to produce the best forecast possible. The NWM output provides supplemental guidance to NWS forecasters and should not be considered an official NWS river forecast.
Flood Impacts
- 12 - Flood stage is reached. Minor flooding occurs in the woodlands along the river upstream and downstream from the gage at Lexington-Carlton Road. The water reaches the power meter on an EPA monitoring station on the upstream and rightbank of the river by the bridge. Portions of the Watson Mill Bridge State Park near the river around 5 miles upstream from the gage will be flooded. The water level will be hitting the bottom of the Historic Watson Mill Covered Bridge.
- 10 - Bankfull conditions are reached upstream and downstream from the gage at Lexington-Carlton Road. The water reaches the wood deck of an EPA monitoring station on the upstream and rightbank of the river by the bridge. Low lying areas of the Watson Mill Bridge State Park near the river around 5 miles upstream from the gage will begin to flood. The water level will be close to the bottom of the Historic Watson Mill Covered Bridge.
