National Water Model Hydrograph
Official NWS streamflow forecasts are produced by NWS hydrologic forecasters for river gauge locations using hydrologic models which are calibrated to that location. This process considers additional guidance and information, including local expertise and experience, to produce the best forecast possible. The NWM output provides supplemental guidance to NWS forecasters and should not be considered an official NWS river forecast.
Flood Impacts
- 22 - (6.7 meters), major lowland flooding occurs above Dryden to Amistad Reservoir. Below Foster Ranch, the river is one third mile wide and covers the right flood plain to the canyon wall. Campers, autos, gear and livestock flood anywhere in the Rio Grande canyon bottom and will wash downstream. Canoeing and kayaking are extremely dangerous in the Rio Grande River above Dryden to Amistad Reservoir. Turbulent flow, huge eddies and whirlpools occur.
- 18 - (5.5 meters), the flow is well into the flood plain and threatens campers, gear and autos below Dryden to Amistad Reservoir. The flow is very turbulent with eddies and whirlpools dangerous to swimmers, canoeists and kayakers from above Foster Ranch to Amistad Reservoir.
- 15 - (4.6 meters), moderate lowland flooding into the right flood plain floods campsites below Dryden to Amistad Reservoir. Turbulence is very dangerous for swimmers, tubers and canoeists. Livestock are trapped in low areas of the channel and banks and potentially can drown.
