National Water Model Hydrograph
Official NWS streamflow forecasts are produced by NWS hydrologic forecasters for river gauge locations using hydrologic models which are calibrated to that location. This process considers additional guidance and information, including local expertise and experience, to produce the best forecast possible. The NWM output provides supplemental guidance to NWS forecasters and should not be considered an official NWS river forecast.

Unique Local Info
The US Army Corps of Engineers regulates flows on the Chena River during flood events through the Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project immediately upstream of the Moose Creek Dam stream gage. The flood control project was authorized with an established flood control regulation of 12,000 cfs through the city of Fairbanks. Current operating thresholds for the project are between 8,000 cfs and 8,500 cfs depending upon the forecast meteorological conditions. Some low lying areas downstream from the project may experience minor flooding during a normal flood control operation. More information about the Chena Lakes Flood Control project can be found at : http://www.poa.usace.army.mil/co/chena/ch/intro.htm
