National Water Model Hydrograph
Official NWS streamflow forecasts are produced by NWS hydrologic forecasters for river gauge locations using hydrologic models which are calibrated to that location. This process considers additional guidance and information, including local expertise and experience, to produce the best forecast possible. The NWM output provides supplemental guidance to NWS forecasters and should not be considered an official NWS river forecast.
Flood Impacts
- 19.6 - Platform of gage house doorway.
- 18 - Flood of record.
- 16 - The fairgrounds and buildings along the river begin to flood. Channel improvements have lessened the likelihood of flooding, but development in the flood plain is in danger.
- 14 - Buildings in the flood plain are flooded. Numerous parking lots of venues along the river may be completely flooded, including The Apple Barn, if the chief contributor is the West Prong. A mini golf course near Community Center Drive floods if the chief contributor is the West Prong.
- 12 - Parking lots of various dining and entertainment venues along the river may be flooding. However, the gage is 0.4 mile downstream from the confluence of the Little Pigeon River and the West Prong Little Pigeon River, which are normally of fairly comparable flows. Certain events may substantially impact one of these streams but not the other, or both equally, thus impacts upstream from their confluence cannot be standardized according to this gage.
- 11 - The river runs bankfull. No known damage occurs at this level.
