National Water Model Hydrograph
Official NWS streamflow forecasts are produced by NWS hydrologic forecasters for river gauge locations using hydrologic models which are calibrated to that location. This process considers additional guidance and information, including local expertise and experience, to produce the best forecast possible. The NWM output provides supplemental guidance to NWS forecasters and should not be considered an official NWS river forecast.
Flood Impacts
- 6000 - 6000 CFS WILL CAUSE A HIGH WATER ALERT. LOW LYING AREAS NEAR THE RIVER WILL FLOOD.
- 5000 - 5000 CFS DISCHARGE OR HIGHER --- PARTS OF RIVER ROAD WILL BE CLOSED DOWNSTREAM. Homes may be impacted near the confluence of the East and West Forks of the Tuckasegee River and evacuations may be required. The NWS will coordinate with Jackson County Emergency Management and a Flash Flood Warning may be issued for localized areas immediately downstream of the dam and above Cullowhee, especially during overnight hours.
- 102.5 - 2.5 FT OF WATER WILL BE FLOWING OVER THE DAM. PARTS OF LOCAL ROADS DOWNSTREAM OF GAGE WILL BE CLOSED.
