13.8 This was the level of the July 2017 flash flood. Dozens of properties were flooded along the reach of the creek. Several residents were evacuated from their homes. Several bridges and roads were inundated from Choconut, PA to Vestal, NY
12 FEMA flood insurance risk maps indicate that this stream level on the gauge marks the 0.2% (500-year) floodplain. Your property is at risk for flooding during a near record flood event. A 500-year flood is a flood that has a 0.2 percent chance of occurring in any year.
11 FEMA flood insurance risk maps indicate that this stream level on the gauge marks the 1% (100-year) floodplain. Your property is at risk for flooding during a major flood event. A 100-year flood is a flood that has a 1 percent chance of occurring in any year.
10.5 Widespread significant flooding begins from the PA State Line to downtown Vestal. Evacuations and water rescues have occurred in the past above this level. Bridges on Kellum Rd., Glenwood Rd., West Hill Rd., are likely to be flooded.
9.5 Flooding of properties and homes increases on Richards Ave., Kintner Estates, Glenwood Road, Coleman Street, West Hill Road, Grand Ave., and Sunset Ave.
8.5 Water floods into the natural floodplain near the gauge. Downstream flooding occurs at Richards Avenue Park, Vestal Center Park, and may reach backyards of residences closest to the river at around 9 feet.
8 Officials begin local notification of rising waters. Flood preparedness functions begin.
