Web Portal Changes: The Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) hosted at https://water.weather.gov will be replaced by the National Water Prediction Service (NWPS), with a target of March 2024. Existing AHPS content and features will be preserved and expanded within NWPS.

Experimental National Water Center Products: Flood Inundation Mapping services are now available for 10% of the U.S. population. Please visit https://www.weather.gov/owp/operations for more information. The National Hydrologic Discussion, Area Hydrologic Discussion, Flood Hazard Outlook, and real-time geospatial services depicting River Forecast Center and National Water Model forecasts, continue to be accessible via the URL above, as described in the StoryMap here.

NOTE: Please refer to our Coastal Hazard Message for specific information regarding Coastal Flood Watches, Warnings and Advisories. Actual impacts from any coastal flooding event may vary due to factors such as rainfall, wave action, and the number of tide cycles during which there is an onshore flow. During tropical cyclones, please refer here for additional storm surge information.

NOTE: During a Tropical Storm or Hurricane Watch or Warning, inundation mapping provided by the National Hurricane Center (go to the web site and select the storm of interest) reflects a reasonable worst case scenario. The forecast above is the total water forecast that is most likely to occur.

NOTE: Forecasts for the Boston Harbor at Boston (IN MLLW) are issued routinely year-round.

Vertical Datum references a tidal datum...for more information see Tides and Currents .

Flood Impacts & Photos Collapse

16 This is a degree of flooding rarely seen. Major widespread coastal flooding is expected. Numerous homes and roadways will be flooded from Revere and Winthrop southward thru Hull, including major flooding within the Boston Seaport District. Impacts will occur during several hours before and after high tide. People living in vulnerable coastal areas must take action to protect life and property.
14.5 Significant flooding of low lying coastal locations is expected from Revere and Winthrop southward through Hull. This includes significant flooding within the Seaport District of Boston. Numerous homes will be flooded. Road closures and evacuations of coastal sections are likely. Large swells and wave action will produce significant beach erosion.
14 Flooding of low lying coastal locations is expected from Revere and Winthrop southward through Hull. Road closures and some evacuations of coastal sections may be required. Large swells and wave action will produce minor to moderate beach erosion.
13.5 Minor flooding of low lying coastal locations is expected from Revere and Winthrop southward through Hull. The combination of high tides and large swells will result in washover onto coastal roadways and some road closures may occur around the time of high tide.
12.5 Minor coastal flooding occurs along Morrissey Boulevard in Boston.
