Graphical representation of flood inundation for NWS flood categories are based on steady state hydraulic modeling of water surface elevations for incremented discharges. Map shows approximate inundation areas for given water surface elevations and should not be used for navigation or permitting or other legal purposes, but strictly as a planning reference tool.

Graphical representation of flood inundation for NWS flood categories are based on steady state hydraulic modeling of water surface elevations for incremented discharges. 1. Mapping in the Baraboo confluence area (depicted in the green shaded Confluence Area map overlay) may not represent actual conditions during periods of higher or lower flows coming from the Baraboo. For this mapping analysis, the Baraboo River flow contribution was modeled as moderate (5,500 cfs) for all map levels.
  2. In the Baraboo confluence area, only locations impacted by Wisconsin River backwater/inundation at the given level are depicted on each map. Portions of the confluence area that are wet from the modeled Baraboo flows alone are clipped out of each level through 21ft. At 22ft, the area is inundated by embankment overtopping further upstream, so it is left un-clipped.
  3. This map shows flooding that is representative of 2011 (date of LIDAR terrain collection) conditions. The accuracy of the mapping will be reduced if flood protection systems are developed, enhanced, or deteriorate from the 2011 conditions.
  4. The AHPS flood inundation maps, when compared to the regulatory FEMA DFIRM mapping, will depict different flooding scenarios. The differences occur because AHPS and FEMA maps have been designed for different purposes and developed based on different assumptions.
